Whitney, stylist and founder of KodakStylez

Welcome to KodakStylez

My name is Whitney. I am a natural hairstylist who focuses on the health of hair. One of my specialties is the SilkPress: I’ve mastered straightening hair without damaging hair shafts, making natural hair look as if it has gone through relaxing.

People have often told me that doing hair is one of my gifts from the almighty. I absolutely love growing and caring for my clients’ hair. I encourage my clients to embrace their natural hair in its current state, while reminding them to trust the process to their hair goals.

Every appointment at KodakStylez is built around that belief: that healthy hair and beautiful hair are one and the same, and that trust between stylist and client is where real transformation begins.

I’m also a published author. My book, Unleashed Beauty, gathers everything I teach clients in the chair about caring for natural hair with confidence. You can read more about it on the book page.

My Story

Why I Do This Work

I’ve always been passionate about writing and talking about Black women and natural hair. It’s a subject close to my heart, because I lived it long before I picked up shears and a blow dryer for a living.

Growing up, I struggled with my own hair journey. There were years I felt genuinely ashamed of my natural texture. I didn’t see it reflected back to me as something beautiful, and I didn’t yet have the language or the tools to care for it the way it deserved. It wasn’t until I found the natural hair community that something shifted. Seeing other women embrace their curls, coils, and texture, and share exactly how they did it, gave me permission to do the same.

That’s the heart of why KodakStylez exists. I want to empower and inspire Black women to embrace their natural hair, whatever stage of the journey they’re on. Beyond the chair, I love building community around that mission, sharing tips, tutorials, product reviews, and personal stories on My Hair Journey, the studio’s ongoing journal.

If you’re just starting to embrace your natural texture, or you’ve been on this journey for years and want a stylist who treats your hair’s health as the true luxury, welcome. I’d love to meet you in the chair.

Health First

Every technique is chosen to protect the integrity of your hair shaft and scalp, never sacrificing health for a look.

Rooted in Trust

Real transformation takes patience. I walk with my clients through the process, not just the appointment.

Community & Craft

From tutorials to personal stories, KodakStylez is about empowering Black women to love their natural hair.
